　　史莱克和菲奥纳在“遥远王国”过着幸福快乐的生活。可是老国王却染上了重病，按照王国法律，老国王撒手西去之后，史莱克就当继承王位。然而，比起王位，史莱克更向往自由，老国王只好同意，如果史莱克能找到王位继承人，就让他们夫妻回到沼泽地继续过他们的逍遥生活。

　　于是，史莱克带着贴身好友贫嘴驴和靴子猫一起打算把即将从学校毕业的亚瑟接回王国继承王位。而亚瑟是中学里的懒鬼学生，要说服他回国做正经事当国王非常困难。一番软磨硬泡下亚瑟终于同意前往。与此同时只身在王国陪伴父母的菲奥纳公主却遇到了麻烦。不甘心王位旁落他人的查明王子纠结了一帮邪恶海盗杀回遥远王国，计划掀起一场大叛乱，企图一举夺走王位。菲奥纳和宫女们携手组织了妇女自救队，并将王国里的公主们组织起来，与查明王子的乌合之众抗争到底。
